On March
28, TecsChange, in collaboration with Tonantzin, hosted the Boston stop of
the IFCO/Pastors for Peace Spring 2001 Caravan to Chiapas, Mexico, Honduras
and Nicaragua.
Caravanistas,
Desi Ruiz and Ana Miranda, were cheerfully and warmly welcomed by several
TecsChange, Tonantzin and the Fifth District Citizens Concerned About Central
America volunteers. For several hours, volunteers packed and loaded computers
and other material aid destined for Chiapas, Honduras and Nicaragua in support
of grassroots and non-governmental organizations that are working for fundamental
social change, self-determination, peace and justice in their societies.
A lively
and fun filled fiesta preceded the sendoff on Sunday, March 28 at the Middle
East Club in Cambridge. The event was sponsored by TecsChange, CISPES, Tonantzin,
AFSC, Mass. LLCLAA, the Fifth District Citizens Concerned About Central America,
Community Church of Boston and Partners in Health. Proceeds from the event
provided support for the IFCO/Pastors for Peace Caravan and earthquake relief
for El Salvador.
